Joshua Tree National Park

The heat is still crazy but around 95 instead of 108, lol.

On the way to Joshua Tree we went by  acres of coconut palms. must have been a coconut farm so cool!

Thinking the blue crane on the right may be picking coconuts.

OMG I have never seen so many teddy bear chollas in one place ever!! Crazy!!!
AND they were blooming!!!!!!

Below is our first Joshua tree sighting. lol wait till you see later pics!

Approaching all the big rock formations that make Joshua tree famous.

Above is an oasis spring the palms are so cool, so thick when not trimmed
I found an authentic Mexican restaurant that finally had nopalitos ( Cactus pads, one of my most favorites that I have trouble finding in restaurants even out west!!) I was in heaven!

The next day we explored the northern part of the park ( The more visited part)
We found so many wildflowers and cacti and ACRES of Joshua Trees!
But first on the way to the north gate we drove by the biggest wind farm we have ever seen. in Palm Springs. it feeds power to over 1500 homes!

Snow packed  mountain in the distance! crazy when its in the high 90s! Look at all the Joshua trees!!!
Jer is hiking like a trooper! I am so very proud of him. we are taking it slow and the heat is keeping us from overdoing. A little over 2 months with a broken femur and he is hiking more than 2 miles a day in the heat!!!!!!
Kingcup cactus! A new one for me.

a beautiful Beavertail!

Not only are the Joshua Trees everywhere, but they are all blooming!

If you zoom in on above picture the yellow is thousands of golden linanthus. each flower is only about a 1/4 inch big
a great example of a Joshua Tree grove.
a new plant for me so funny... called Paperbag Bush!!

This is the top of  Keys View, the highest point in the park. where you can see even see the San Andreas Fault. a bit hard to see in the haze but I could see it!

This little guy wanted our lunch !
This is a famous rosk called Skull rock.. too crowed to explore.
Omg we went to a local Vallarta Supermarket  I was in heaven it was a mexican extraviganza. i bought some chicken al pastor in a fresh package raw , seasoned and ready to cook. cheap and so fun I dressed up the rest.

Off to Death Valley NP tomorrow

  1. More incredible flowers. But I really like the coconut grove too. Those are not the graceful, leaning palm tree trees that one typically sees.
