Homeward Bound!

 I tried to find some interesting places to stay on way home through the flat Midwest! 
Quintessential farmlands!


We had to grab one last Mexican lunch in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, before crossing in to Kansas! LOL We were defiantly out of the "Authentic " range!! It was "OK" ...

Found a great town Park in Ellis Kansas.  A quaint town know for its part in the Kansas Pacific railroad and fun fact is it was the childhood town of Walter P. Chrysler  What a great spot right on a river with full hookups for  25.00!!! a GREAT "out west" stopover!!

Tuesday April 21
I found a FREE MCD campground Perfect on a river....except it had rained so the river was too brown to fish!


We were the only ones there! Very peaceful, just a little highway noise , better than Cracker Barrel. lol

Food better than Cracker Barrel too! shrimp and scallops with power greens garlic in a lemon wine sauce quite yummy, if I don't say so myself!!

Wednesday April 22

We drove right by the Gateway arch!! I guess we can add that to our Nation 11al Park count for this trip!!






We had a great site, very private, right on a little cove ! 25.00 water and electric!! ...a non biting fish everywhere!!!

Cool bridge over the Ohio river.

Coming in to Cincinnati.. We think it was our first time. Impressive cityscape.

we stayed at a very different Harvest Host! A restaurant! usually they are breweries, vineyards and farms, sometimes with an attached restaurant. Now many restaurants are being added, a nice diversion from Cracker Barrel.

Ignore the white dots on the picture above. It was NOT snowing ,lol, just mist on my side window.

We came out of the restaurant to see this rainbow!!




We stopped at an rest stop in Ohio! parked next to the "Jerry" truck with all his Amazon orders cued up for his return home and then as we were leaving had a good laugh at the dumpster company name. I'm remembering seeing those on a past trip west. must be big in Ohio!!

We drove farther than planned so we could get here and have a last minute dinner with Jerry's brother and sister. So happy they are both free!!!

 We had a great visit and a surprisingly great meal at this Harvest Host little bar and restaurant. Best sweet potato fries I think I ever had. I just love the little happy accidents in life.

Heading home tomorrow! Looking forward to seeing spring unfold in our yard and digging in the dirt.

 We left Oasis State on route to Deming, NM to visit and old friend. At first we couldn't figure out what the white haze in the distance.  As we got closer we realized it was White Sands National Park. Impressive how far away it was visible We stopped at a tiny taco truck in an assuming town. It was the BEST!! Westward bound again!

 We are very excited to travel west again to explore more of our amazing National Parks. If all goes as planned this trip will complete our quest to visit all of our National Parks in the contiguous 48 (except two islands where we couldn't get ferry rides, lol. We are so happy to be able to do this trip after Jerry unexpectedly fractured his femur skiing January 15th, ending our 2026 ski season and 3 planned ski trips with dear friends. We are so thankful Jerry healed enough to be able to make this dream trip happen. We invite you to follow along wirh us. Organ Pipe National Monument

It hit 107 again today in Organ pipe! Wow!! A very different experience. It is my 7th time here, Jerry's 2nd, and this is the hottest and driest I have every seen it!! March 21,2026 - hardly a wildflower to be found! Above are some pics from March 27, 2023 to show the difference!  No superbloom here this year! Didn't get the rain. Same road 2023 and 2026. Kind of cool to see how different it can be. The left is Alamo Canyon Campgroubd in 2023 vs today  2026 on the right. This is the primitive campsite I tented in 1991-1995. A special place in my heart. It was never close to 107 degrees thank heavens! Lol We did a 2 mile hike to arch canyon. It was way too hot but still beautiful. Definitely tired us out but had a long nights sleep and feeling refreshed as I write this today. The desert plants adapt so well to a lack of rain.
